DAO Investors lost $43.2 Million Sale Of U.S. Constitution

While the winner of a rare copy of the United States Constitution sold for $43.2 million at Sotheby's on Thursday, constitution DAO did not win the auction.

The Constitution auctioned on Thursday is one of just two privately held pieces of a publication prepared for the 1787 Constitutional Convention. Constitution DAO had wanted to donate it to a museum or another public institution, and it has said that if it loses, it would refund the funds donated.

Dorothy Goldman, the former owner of the artifact, expects to contribute the selling earnings to her charity, which promotes constitutional law research.

S. Howard Goldman, spent $165,000 for the Constitution in 1988, hence the deal offered him a 24,700 percent return.
